check out: Mark Borthwick

i was reminded of this living legend and huge personal influence as he had a brief interview in the current issue of Oyster magazine. in it he shines light to the fact that digital photography is not like photography, but painting, because it is no longer a record of truth (thus he keeps it at arm's length, for now). i'd quote exactly if i had the magazine in front of me, but anyway, what inspires me about his work is how the world in his pragmatic eye is foiled by this unveiled sentimentality in evocative washes and washes of color.
